It is not too difficult to obtain visas for Ethiopia – visa requirements are fairly simple and quick to process in fact.
All foreign nationals re required to have a visa to enter Ethiopia, except travellers who are in transit and are continuing to other third world countries, and will not be leaving the airport.
Some foreign nationals are able to obtain their travel visas from Addis Ababa airport. These include travellers from Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, The Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, UK and USA. All other visitors will need to arrange their visas before leaving for Ethiopia however.
Visas are generally valid for up to six months, and costs are as follows: £12 single-entry for one month, £18 multiple-entry for three months and £24 multiple-entry for six months.
Visas typically take between 2 and 3 days to be processed. Applications by post may take longer.
