Ethiopia Transport

Ethiopia transport options are fairly cheap and generally reliable to an extent. The main areas of the country are safe for walking, especially in Addis Ababa.

Getting around Ethiopia

There are a number of ways of getting around Ethiopia, from walking to self-drive and even bus travel. Each option has its own pros and cons, and varies in reliability and affordability.

Car Travel in Ethiopia
Self-drive is a great way to see the country, and with fairly good roads the country is generally fine for driving during dry season. Areas near the borders can be dangerous however, so you should be careful not to drive at night or alone.

Bus Travel in Ethiopia
Buses are fairly cheap, but are not very comfortable and are known for being very slow. Many private travel cars operate near bus routes, and offer a slightly more expensive but much quicker alternative.

Train Travel in Ethiopia

There is a very slow train service operating between Addis Ababa and Dire Dawa, however these journeys are famous for being uncomfortable and slow.
