Tania - OverlandingAfrica.com15 Dec 2009: Hey Paul, Mmm� last time I went that way you could only go via Moyale as there was no other southern border open, there was no road past Omorate and if you tried to bush bash it you popped out in no-mans land between the disputed political and administrative borders! As far as I know the only �official� border is Moyale. Other people who have crossed over near Illeret and headed down the east side of the Lake say there is only a police checkpoint at the border post but have made it successfully. However a RAV4 might not cut it without a truck load of off-road kit and emergency spares! Keep well and go safe and give us a shout if we can help with anything!
Paul15 Dec 2009: I am planning to return to Kenya in my Toyota RAV4 from Addis Ababa where I have been working for two years. I want to cross the Ethiopia/Kenya border at Omorate rather than Moyale. I can't find Omorate or Illeret on my Michelin map. Can you pinpoint it for me and do you know of any planned border crossings by overland trucks around mid January? Thank you.
