Gondar airports include the following:
•Bole International - Addis Ababa Airport
•Gondar Airport

Gondar birdlife plays a fairly small role in this medeival city's appeal, however large birds like vultures can be found across the skies over the castles, with other birds of prey such as eagle to be found as well. Yellow-bellied Green-pigeon are also a common sight.

Despite efforts by the government and various conservation groups to try and balance the chronic levels of deforestation and wildlife species endangerment, Gondar conservation is much the same as Ethiopia conservation as a whole, and is aggravated by natural hazards such as drought and flooding, as well as years of civil war.

Gondar malaria medication includes the following:
•Mefloquine (Lariam)
•Atovaquone/proguanil (Malarone)

Gondar money and banking info includes:
•There are foreign exchange facilities within the village
•Credit cards may be accepted but are generally very seldom used
•Be prepared and bring cash with you when you come to Gondar

Gondar plant life is mostly comprised of mountain vegetation, largely consisting of montane and temperate grasslands, covering the higher altitudes of the Western and Eastern Highlands.

Safety Tips

•Gondar is very safe to visit with almost no crime
•Tourists are fairly rare, and are sometimes the target of great fascination
•Keep valuables out of sight, and be firm but polite if hassled

Travel Books

Gondar recommended travel books include the following:
•History of the City of Gondar by Soloman Getahun
•Spectrum Guide to Ethiopia by Camerapix and Barbara Lawrence Balletto
•Ethiopia, the Unknown Land: A Cultural and Historical Guide by Stuart Munro-Hay
•The Ethiopians: A History by Richard Pankhurst
•Bradt Travel Guide: Ethiopia by Philip Briggs

Gondar wildlife is somewhat minimal, with smaller rodents and mammals to be found in the woodlands around the village. A growing percentage of wildlife species are under threat from endangerment or extinction, especially native species which are only found in certain regions of the country which may face deforestation or habitat loss.
