Awassa Budget Travel

Located on the shores of Lake Awasa in the Great Rift Valley, this town offers ideal Awassa budget travel attractions.

Awasa, also know as Awasa or Hawassa, lies on the Addis Ababa on Nairobi Road, and has an elevation of 1708 meters. Awasa Airport has served the city since 1988.

Awassa Budget Safaris

Awassa budget safaris offer a wide range of attractions and activities to enjoy.

For the adventurous, boat rides to see the hippos can be taken for about 200 birr (but barter for lower prices). Travellers will be taken in a flat bottomed dory out to the enormous animals. Some of the boats leak, but they are reasonably safe. It is a 20 – 30 minute ride, and travellers should not get too close to the protective hippos, they will go under the water.

For cheap, tasty and fresh fish, take a horse taxi early in the morning down to Lake Awasa and enjoy some fresh catches of the day.

Other attractions include bird watching, St. Gabriel church and the Awassa Kenema Stadium.

Tom Syre19 Mar 2012: My daughter, Elizabeth, and I would like to visit HAWASSA around Easter. We would ***REALLY**** like to charter a *cheap* prop Cessna plane from Addis(Bole) to Hawassa's tiny airport. But, it looks like getting a small plane charter is really tough. We would consider going by a land cruiser or land rover from Addis. It would be a little more comfortable than a bus. We are both staff members at Haramaya University.
