England Wildlife

England wildlife varies from the smallest of animals to larger animals, with few predators other than smaller cats, weasel family or rodents.

Most wildlife is concentrated around the country’s vast number of nature reserves and Areas Of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and non-endemic species can be seen at the zoos within the country.

Animals in England

There are a fairly diverse range of animals in England, which can be found in the country’s various habitats, from woodlands and farmlands to marshes and moors.

Native species to England include European hedgehog, Red deer, Roe deer, Red Squirrel, Eurasian otter, Polecat, Hazel dormouse, Great crested newt, Common frog, Natterjack toad, Grass snake and Sand lizard.

Other species to be found include wild boar, bats, American mink which poses a large threat the smaller water vole, badger, weasel, foxes, rabbits, vole, wildcat, mole and stoat. A number of marine species including seals, turtles and whales can also be found along England’s coastlines.
