Egypt's People

Egypt's people you will see on your OverlandingAfrica.com trip are mostly Egyptians, who make up 99.6% of the population.

The remaining 0.4% of ethnic groups in Egypt includes Bedouins, Nubians, Dom, Greeks and Berbers.

Egyptians were some of the world’s most ancient tribes, and Egyptian civilization has been developing for the past 12, 000 years. In modern times, Egypt has one of the highest rates of population and development in the world.

According to a 2007 survey, the total population of Egypt is 80,335,036. The rate of population growth per year is about 1.721%.

Egyptians are divided demographically into people who live in the major urban centers and the fellahin or farmers who live in rural villages. City and urban areas tend to have a denser rate of population, while rural areas have smaller groups.

Many Egyptians have immigrated to Western countries, while many other nationals – especially from neighbouring war-torn countries, have migrated to Egypt as refugees.
