Egypt customs are fairly straightforward, and should not present any problems on your visit.
Personal items such as camera, radio, recorder, diving or fishing equipment or a small generator set need to be declared, and may face taxes if not declared properly.
The following items are prohibited for import and export:
- Narcotics, drugs or cotton
- Live, frozen or stuffed birds or any bird derived product
- Any type of food, especially meat or dairy
- Gold and silver curios unless in very small quantities and for personal use
Pets are generally permitted into the country on proof of recent vaccinations shots and vet’s clean bill of health; however animals may be detained in quarantine for up to 15 days on cases of suspicion, so it is best to not bring pets into the country.
Local Egyptian Pound LE currency can be imported or exported up to LE 5,000. Foreign currencies can be imported or exported up to USD 10,000 or its equivalent in convertible currency.
