A day-by-day breakdown of what to expect and where you'll be staying.
Day 1, Nairobi to Arusha
After a short but somewhat bumpy trip we cross the border at Namanga, enter Tanzania and continue to Arusha in the heart of Masai lands. This pleasant town is situated at the base of Mount Meru and is the starting point for your optional excursion to Ngorongoro Crater and/or Serengeti National Park.
Day 2, Arusha to Karatu
On our way to Karatu we pass the village of Meserani, hosting a snake park and a Masai Culture museum, through the town of Mto Wa Mbu and up the western edge of the Rift Valley escarpment where we pause for views over Lake Manyara and the surrounding Masai lands.
Day 3, Karatu to Ngorongoro Conservation Area
We spend all day game driving in the Ngorongoro Conservation area with 4x4 vehicles.
Day 4, Ngorongoro Conservation Area to Serengeti National Park
We make our way down to the Serengeti Plains where we take game drives through the park and hope to glimpse the spectacle of the great migration of wildlife.
Day 5, Serengeti National Park
Our day is spent game driving through the Serengeti National Park.
Day 6 to 7, Serengeti National Park to Lake Nakuru National Park
After a last game drive through the western corridor of the Serengeti we head to Lake Victoria. Here we spend a night on the shores of the largest tropical lake in the world. The next morning we cross into Kenya and travel to the Lake Nakuru National park.
Day 8, Lake Nakuru National Park
After restocking our supplies in town we explore the Lake Nakuru National Park - a soda lake that is famous for the huge volumes of lesser and greater flamingos that flock here. A truly spectacular sight! We also keep an eye out for Black and White Rhino, Leopard, Buffalo, Giraffe, antelope and the occasional Hippo before spending the night at a bush camp within the Park.
Day 9, Lake Nakuru National Park
We spend another day exploring the Lake Nakuru National park in search of the Big 5.
Day 10, Lake Nakuru National Park to Lake Naivasha
Moving east again we head to Lake Naivasha, home to the magnificent African Fish Eagle. At 1880 m this is the highest Rift Valley lake and time permitting we can spend the afternoon enjoying optional excursions close by. We spend our last night in a lovely campsite on the lakes edge.
Day 11, Lake Naivasha
Lake Naivasha is home to a multitude of bird life including the magnificent African Fish Eagle. Spend the day at leisure or take a trip to Elsamere, a boat ride to the Crescent Island Game Sanctuary or a bike ride around Hell’s Gate National Park.
Day 12, Lake Naivasha to Masai Mara
Entering Masai land we are likely to see these colourful locals tending their stock on the side of the road. Our overnight stop looks out across the Masai Mara National Reserve.
Day 13, Masai Mara
We will look for the infamous Big 5 as well as the plentiful plains game and birdlife on our game drives. You will see this 'garden of Eden' in a state nature intended it to be, rolling hills, huge plains, and an abundance of game matched no where else on earth. Buffalo, elephant, lion, cheetah, zebra, wildebeest, waterbuck just to name a few of the animals that inhabit this wild wonderland. Sitting around a campfire listening to the bush sounds, whilst watching the sun set is the perfect way to finish a day's game viewing in the Mara.
Day 14, Masai Mara to Nairobi
Leaving the Masai Mara, we head out into the surrounding area where we still catch a glimpse of the game that has migrated into the Masai Land region. We reach Nairobi in the late afternoon where our trip will come to an end.
