DRC Safety

Is it safe to travel to DRC then? Currently, it is by no means safe to travel in this country, and DRC safety is a major issue to consider.

Years of civil war which has continued into years of unrest and fighting between police, military and tribal groups as well as an extremely high crime rate and devastating poverty make the DRC a very unsafe and highly dangerous country.

If you have to travel through the country however, it is essential to be extremely aware and cautious at all times and follow basic safety precautions.

Is it Safe to Travel in DRC?

Do not attempt to travel through the eastern or north-eastern areas under any circumstances, as fighting in these areas breaks out frequently.

The rest of the country is not recommended for any travel other than non-essential trips, and many parts are highly dangerous for civilians.

Taking photographs of any airport or government building, or military gatherings is highly prohibited, and may result in fines or worse. Crowds should be avoided, as protests are common and often result in violent clashes.
