DRC Culture
DRC culture you may come across on your OverlandingAfrica.com trip includes a mixture of western and traditional influences.
Despite so many years of war and poverty, DRC people have a strong sense of culture and many influences can be found across the country.
DRC Art
Like many Congo countries, wooden carvings are a popular form of art. Wooden masks are particularly prevalent in rural areas as well as cities and each tribal group has a distinct style.
DRC Cuisine
Cuisine plays an important role in family life and social gatherings. The DRC national dish is ‘moambe’ (meaning 8) which is made of eight ingredients: palm nuts, chicken, fish, peanuts, rice, cassava leaves, bananas and hot pepper sauce. Meat is generally only eaten by those who can afford it.
DRC Music
DRC is the hub for West African music, and many clubs and bars can be found playing distinct DRC beats. Drumming is also an important aspect of DRC music.
DRC Literature
There are many DRC writers, many of whom have fled the country. Political and social commentary is fairly rare for writers still living in the DRC however.
