Dashour and Saqqara Pyramids Excursion

A visit to the lesser known pyramids of Dashur & Saqqara makes for a fascinating day trip from Cairo.

Saqqara is historically significant for being the necropolis for the (then) capital of Memphis and includes the famous 'Step Pyramid' of Djoser and one of 17 pyramids in the complex.

Well preserved tombs and engraved texts flaunt a history older than the Great Pyramids of Giza and are also home to the 'first draft' of the ancient 'Book of the Dead'.

Dashur is even older and more significant as it is the 'birthplace' of the pyramids and the testing ground (if you like) of the pyramids we know.

It boasts what is believed to be the first Egyptian pyramids of all; the Bent and Red Pyramids which are fabulously well preserved.

Many tombs were found undisturbed and the artifacts (now in the Cairo Antiquities Museum) have given historians a huge insight into the lives and times of this era.

Why do the Dashour and Saqqara Pyramids Excursion?

Older than the Giza Pyramids
Bent, Step and Red Pyramids
Extremely well preserved
First ever Pyramids in Egypt
Many undisturbed tombs
