Congo Money & Banking

Congo money & banking can be done in all major towns, including the capital of Brazzaville and the city of Pointe-Noire.

Banks in Congo are generally open from Monday to Friday, from 06h30 until 13h00 – however most counters close at about 11h00 so it is a good idea to get there early. Most banks are generally not open on weekends either, so be prepared and make sure you go in the week.

Credit and debit cards are very occasionally accepted at some major hotels, but otherwise it can be difficult to find reliable credit card facilities, especially in the more rural areas and villages.

Cash is the best option, and US Dollars are accepted fairly widely across the country. Travellers cheques can be exchanged at some banks or at the airports, Euros are usually easier to exchange however.

Banks in Congo include Bank Of Central African States, Congolese Union Of Banks, The International Bank Of Congo, Congolese Commercial Bank, African Development Bank and Stanbic Bank Congo.
