Congo Culture

Congo culture you may witness on your OverlandingAfrica.com is extremely rich and diverse, with a broad range of traditions and customs to be found across the country’s regions.

Congo Music and Dance
Congo is one of West Africa’s music hubs, and is known for its amazing drumming and rhythmic beats. Dance is also important, and the two are often combined in Congo performing arts which is amazing to watch.

Congo Cuisine
Food plays an important role in social and family gatherings, and while many Congolese cannot afford meat, good and simple food is enjoyed at mealtimes.

Congo Literature

Congo literature and poetry is usually written in French, and plays a fairly important role in cultures of all tribes. Poetry also provides social and political commentary.

Congo Art
Art plays a vital role in Congolese culture, and many beautiful wood carvings and masks can be found. Bakongo and Teke carvings are some of the best in the country.
