Congo Conservation

Congo conservation efforts are vital to ensure that the already highly threatened environment is not completely destroyed.

Conservation groups such as the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) are very active in Congo, and have implemented a number of key projects, including designation protection areas and wildlife population research.

Preservation Congo

Preservation Congo projects are aimed to protect current threatened habitats, to prevent further damage through poaching and deforestation.

Nouabalé-Ndoki as well as Lobéké National Park in Cameroon and Dzanga-Ndoki National Park in the Central African Republic, forms a giant protected area consisting of primary lowland rainforest.

Technically, about 16% of Congo's land area is under some form of protection - although in reality, very little regulation is in place to prevent environmental threats such as logging and hunting.

Two new protected areas have been set aside for increased conservation efforts; these include Ougoue-Lekiti National Park, in the western part of the country, and Ntokou-Pikounda, which is situated southeast of Odzala Kokoua National Park.
