Congo Birds

There are an estimated 719 species of Congo birds to be found across various rich habitats in the country. Despite habitat loss and forest destruction, many endemic species are still key breeders, although many species are under threat.

Birdlife in Congo

Birdlife in Congo is rich and diverse, with coastal, forest and savanna species to be found in key bird areas across the country.

Léfini Faunal Reserve and the Téké Plateau include about 239 species such as Finsch’s Francolin, Lesser Black-winged Lapwing, Congo Moor-Chat and Black-chinned Weaver.

Nouabalé-Ndoki National Park complex in the far north is home to 314 bird species including Sandy Scops Owl, Olive Ibis, African Barred Owlet, Bates’s Nightjar, Brown Nightjar, Forest Wood-hoopoe, Zenker’s Honeyguide, Yellow-capped Weaver and Preuss’s Weaver.

Lower Kouilou basin in the the west of Dimonika bordered to the south-west by the Atlantic coast has Black-headed Bee-eater, Loango Weaver, White-crested Tiger-Heron, African River Martin and Red-throated Cliff Swallow.

Birding Congo

Birding Congo offers some of the most exciting treks and habitat exploration in West Africa, and with such a diverse range of birding areas, the habitats you will encounter are some of the most beautiful in the world.
