Burkina Faso Wildlife

Burkina Faso wildlife is fairly diverse, and is concentrated around the 12 game parks and nature reserves in the country.

Game reserves and national parks include Kaboré Tambi National Park, W National Park, Arli National Park, Mare aux Hippopotames, Madjoari Reserve, Singou Reserve and Bontioli Reserve, as well as a range of partial reserves.

Critically endangered species include the chimpanzee and wild dog, while species like the cheetah are vulnerable.

Animals in Burkina Faso

There are a large number of animals in Burkina Faso, with about 655 mammal species and 121 species of fish.

Native species include wild dog, elephant, clawless otter, aardvark, golden cat, civet, cheetah, cape hare, caracal, chimpanzee, fennec, gazelle, giant pangolin, baboon, hippopotamus, lion, senegal bushbaby, leopard, striped and spotted hyena, pale fox, olive baboon, cape hyrax, patas monkey, genet, red-fronted gazelle, serval, jackal, speckle-throated otter, sun squirrel, striped polecat, warthog, pangolin, mongoose, water chevrotain and wildcat.
