What to Pack for your Burkina Faso Safari?

Your list of things to pack for your safari in Burkina Faso should be kept as simple as possible. Burkina is very hot, even in the cooler months, and you will only need the basics to get by.

Clothing should be as cool as possible, and loose, lightweight cotton clothing with long sleeves is ideal. Women should not wear anything showing knees or shoulders, so avoid anything that may be offensive to locals. Shorts are fine, as long as they come past the knee. Evenings can be cold, so a warm jacket is a good idea too.

Sun protection is essential – you will need good sunglasses, a proper sunhat as well as sunscreen (bring extra!). Since bilharzia poses a huge threat in almost all of Burkina’s lakes and rivers, you will most likely not be swimming so a swimming costume is not a necessity.

A camera with spare batteries, film or memory card is essential to capture the many sights you will see, and binoculars will also be useful for spotting birds and wildlife.
