Burkina Faso Safety

Many people wonder about Burkina Faso safety - is it safe to travel in Burkina Faso?

Burkina Faso is one of the safest and friendliest places in West Africa, making it very safe for travel.

There are a few very basic Burkina Faso safety precautions to follow however, just as you would on any travel experience in Africa.

Is it Safe to Travel in Burkina Faso?

Crime is very low, but in the city there has recently been a spate of petty crime such as pick pocketing or theft. Keep valuables safe and out of sight, and avoid heavily crowded areas, especially in the evenings.

While it is safe to walk in Burkina at night, in the city it is best to avoid badly lit areas just in case. Women should dress moderately to show respect as Burkina has a large Muslim percentage, and dressing ‘provocatively’ can bring unwelcome attention.

The political situation in Burkina Faso is calm, but occasionally there may be small outbreaks of unrest. Avoid large crowds and street demonstrations that could turn violent.
