Burkina Faso Plants

Burkina Faso plants include grass and other herbaceous plants including broadleaf deciduous, shrub, desert shrub, semi-desert savanna, thorny scrub, crops like cotton, yams and cassava, as well as palm and baobab.

Vegetation in Burkina Faso

Vegetation in Burkina Faso is varied to a degree, although much of the country is dry and sparse, especially with a high deforestation rate in the country.

In the north and east vegetation consists of acacia woodland and scrub, expanding into semi-desert in the dry season in the north. The rest of the country has sparse savanna grasslands as well as dry forest areas with occasional shrub vegetation or acacia.

The country is moderately forested with around 15% forest cover and an additional 34% of other wooded land, mainly gallery forests along rivers.

Approximately 16% of the country's forests are inside protected areas, and include Laba Forest, Deux Balés Forest, Diéfoula Forest, Logoniégué Forest, Koflandé Forest, Boulon Forest, Dibon Forest, Mou Forest, Dida Forest and Pâ Forest.
