Health Precautions in Burkina Faso

Burkina Faso is a very poor, undeveloped country with very minimal healthcare - however it is possible to have a happy and healthy holiday if you follow a few basic health precautions in Burkina Faso.

Water and Food in Benin
It is not safe to drink the water in Burkina, due to excessive pollution within the water supplies. Food should never be eaten from street vendors, and you should avoid uncooked or old food, as well as peeled fruits or vegetables.

Medicine and Doctors in Benin
Medical facilities are very basic and sub-standard, and in the rural areas there are no facilities for miles. Bring basics such as anti-diarrhea medications, bandages, painkillers and vitamins.

Swimming in Benin
Like many undeveloped countries in Africa, bilharzia is fairly common in rivers and lakes. Do not swim in Burkina Faso – infection rates are very high in almost all areas.
