Burkina Faso Customs

Burkina Faso customs are fairly straightforward, with average allowances and restrictions as per most West African countries.

Basic guidelines prohibit, restrict or approve the import of substances depending on their nature and the declaration of controlled import items.

  • Narcotic, habit-forming drugs and related substances are prohibited
  • Military firearms, ammunition and explosives are prohibited
  • Indecent and obscene material such as pornography are prohibited
  • Meat and meat products are restricted
  • Plants and plant cuttings are subject to plant health restrictions

Another thing to note is that cameras and video cameras need to be authorised by the Administration Minister to be brought into the country.

Pets can be brought into Burkina provided you have a vet certificate proving rabies vaccines have been done no earlier than 3 weeks and no later than 6 months before departing to Burkina Faso, as well as a certificate proving that no rabies outbreak has occurred within 60 days before departure.
