Many species can easily be spotted in and around the capital of Ouagadougou, with other species appearing in more rural areas.

Birdlife in Burkina Faso is fairly rich and diverse, and many beautiful species can be found in the country’s varied habitats.

Bird species to be seen includes red-throated bee-eater, senegal eremomela, savile’s bustard, golden nightjar, the rare kordofan lark, ostrich, grebes, pink-backed pelican, cattle egret, purple heron, hammerkop, yellow-billed and maribou stork, sacred ibis, 39 species of birds of prey, including african cuckoo-hawk, white-backed vulture, black-shouldered kite, red-thighed sparrowhawk and martial eagle, plus secretary-bird, black-bellied bustard, senegal parrot, rose-ringed parakeet, violet turaco, 10 species of owl including barn owl, 9 species of kingfisher including giant and malachite kingfisher, blue-cheeked bee-eater, green bee-eater, blue-bellied roller and hoopoe.
