Burkina Faso AIDS

Burkina Faso AIDS is one of the country’s biggest threats, and a large portion of the population is at risk from this deadly disease.

Recent studies have shown that around 120,000 adults aged 15 or over in Burkina Faso are living with HIV or AIDS, at an estimated rate of about 1.6% of the adult population.

Burkina Faso HIV & AIDS

Burkina Faso HIV & AIDS can only be transmitted through sexual relations or infected blood or needles. Basic precautions will ensure that you remain healthy and safe on your Burkina travels.

The following precautions are essential:

  • Don’t ever share needles or syringes
  • Practice safe sex at all times
  • Equipment may not be adequately sterilised, or blood may not be properly screened for HIV
  • If you require self-administered injections, take an adequate supply of your own needles
  • Avoid tattoos, acupuncture treatment or body piercing unless the equipment is sterile
