Many travelers wonder, is it safe to travel in Botswana?
Botswana safety is luckily not too much of a problem at all, as the country is one of the safest and friendliest in Southern Africa.
Is it Safe to Travel in Botswana?
Crime is rare, but is starting to increase in the major cities. Basic precautions should be taken, including leaving valuables safe at the hotel or out of sight. Cars should always be locked when parked, and nothing should be left in the car within view.
Walking alone at night is not recommended, and walking alone in some of the dangerous parts of the city even in the day is not a good idea.
Wildlife precautions should also be considered to ensure safe travel in Botswana, and self-drivers should be on the lookout for wildlife and cattle in the roads. When you are in key game areas, keep with your group or guide and do not ever venture out of the camp area alone – there are dangerous predators and game on the loose and you may just find yourself face to face with a lion or other dangerous animal.
