Botswana conservation is a government effort that is taken very seriously in the country by government, tourism sectors and communities.
With about 35% of land set aside for conservation areas, including the national parks and Wildlife Management Areas (WMA), Botswana is leading the way in preservation and protection efforts in Africa.
Communities play an important role in these efforts, as does tourism; and the controlled eco-tourism efforts in Botswana aim to provide the communities with income while utilising their help to preserve the game and birdlife within their areas.

Preservation Botswana aims to protect the country’s wildlife without exploiting designated areas with over-tourism.
The country’s high revenue low volume policy seeks to keep tourist activity in national parks and Wildlife Management Areas lower to ensure a minimal environmental impact, while also providing a more exclusive safari experience for visitors.
Botswana also provides protection and conservation of endangered species such as cheetah and wild dog, as well as the black rhino which are extremely rare in Botswana.
