Which airlines offer flights to Zimbabwe?

Which airlines offer flights to Zimbabwe?
There are regional airlines who still fly to Zimbabwe. These include Air Malawi, Kenyan Airways and South African Airways. According to iol Travel, Emirates Airline will offer flights five days a week between Zimbabwe, Zambia and Dubai in 2012.

In February 2012, Emirates will commence services five days a week from Harare and Lusaka to Dubai,” said an advert placed by Emirates Group looking for staff to run the new flight operations. Air Zimbabwe cut down their services because of employees constantly striking.

Huge debts are also a cause of the cut back in flight numbers as the company tries to maintain their ageing fleet. Pilots of Air Zimbabwe went on strike for over five months in 2011 in protest of unpaid salaries and allowances.

The airline currently holds debt of about $100 million. A handful of  international airlines, including EgyptAir, Air France, KLM, Lufthansa and Quantas have put an end to flights to Zimbabwe because of dwindling passenger numbers. Cape Town to Victoria Falls Tour- Tamzyn’s Travel Diary Part 8

Monday, April 11th, 2011
  • Google+

Epic, wonderful, spectacular - words that fall frighteningly short of what the feeling of wanderlust accomplished presents... Read on for the final tale of Tamzyn’s 21 day Cape Town to Vic Falls overland trip. Zimbabwe campsite

Day 22: Victoria Falls

Today is my last day at Victoria Falls and reaching the end of my Overlanding Africa trip is very disheartening. I keep thinking that this tour cannot get any more exciting, any more wonderful or any more spectacular and then I wake up and something else comes along to prove me wrong! An overlanding trip is absolutely the greatest African adventure!

Vic Falls Gorge Swing

Cliff-Diving Head First

We are going out with a bang and opted for the many hair-raising extreme activities on offer around Victoria Falls. There is so much for us to choose from: lion walks, elephant back safaris, gorge swinging, bungee jumping, grade 5 white water rafting, and helicopter flights over the falls. In the end we decide to toss our logic out the window and opt for the gorge swing, zip-line and flying fox package; or as was eloquently put by one of my overlanding tour buddies “to jump head first off three platforms down a bottomless gorge for no other reason than to scare ourselves sh##less”!

Flying Fox

The gorge swing is the highlight of the day! We look like a group of mentally insane patients; climbing up onto our hands before being pushed off the platform and diving 70 metres head first, along the cliff face before swinging out above the furious brown waters of the Zambezi River below.

Victoria Falls

Victoria Falls Park

After all that monumental adventure we have the afternoon left to walk along the length of the roaring white waters of Victoria Falls and appreciate the different viewpoints of Mosi-oa-Tunya: The Smoke that Thunders. The seemingly endless curtain of water gushes with immense power and force rushing down the side of the steep chasm at over 545 million litres per minute and sending a towering cloud of spray spiralling up into the air. We are so dumbstruck by the sight of Victoria Falls, we don’t even notice that we are all soaked from head to toe in the shower of spray.

Day 23: It’s Hard to Say Goodbye

It’s a sad and difficult farewell to my new found friends and the overlanding truck, the flight from the airport marks the end of my awesome adventure filled overland journey from Cape Town to Victoria Falls. I saw some fantastic sights, experienced and explored more of Africa than I could have ever dreamed of and met inspiring and friendly locals - as well as making a bunch of new friends and amazing memories. These have only fed my wanderlust for overland trips through Africa.

Zimbabwe Visa - Day Visa Stopped

Monday, October 26th, 2009
  • Google+

We hear that with immediate effect, Zimbabwe is no longer offering a day visa for travelers wishing to do activities on the Zambian side of the Zambezi.

All travelers leaving Zimbabwe will need to purchase a new visa on their return to the country.

If you plan to take part in Victoria Falls adventure activities based in Zambia, or wish to pay a visit to the Zambian side of the Falls, I suggest you purchase a multiple entry visa on arrival into Zimbabwe to allow you to come and go as you wish.

Zimbabwe Travel Tips

Monday, October 26th, 2009
  • Google+

So much to see and do - where do you start? Here is a short list of things to do and things not to do on a trip to  Zimbabwe.

Zimbabwe Overland Tours

Do:

- Have cash in USD or ZAR to pay for day-to-day items and activities

- Spend a extra day or 2 at either end of your trip visiting the local sites

- See Victoria Falls from the air

- See more than just Victoria Falls!

- Take a Lion for a walk at Antelope Park, Gweru (the best campsite in Africa in my humble opinion)

- Get the most out of Zimbabwe by using local guides for sights and activities

- Stick to designated areas and trails within Victoria Falls National Park

- Barter the price for your curios

- Keep your valuables secure at all times

- Leave photocopies of your documentation with someone at home

- Take time to chat to the locals about non-political issues

- they are REAL people too

Don't:

- Believe everything you hear on the news channels

- Rely on your Credit Card to pay for things (if the charges don't get you the exchange rate will)

- Take photos of any Police or military people or of any check point, border post or installation

- Exchange money 'on the street'

- Buy curios without bartering first but also don't fight over a few measly cents

- Walk around Harare at night

- Expect Zimbabwe to be like your home country

- this is Africa!

Get Cash in Victoria Falls

Thursday, October 1st, 2009
  • Google+

Barclays Bank has now activated their ATM machine in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe so it now dispenses cash in USD. At the moment they only accept Visa cards but the Mastercard option will be available soon.

Daily limit is US$400. At this time we still advise travelers to make sure they have enough cash on them before arriving in Zimbabwe as there is no guarantee US cash will be available regularly from this machine - or that the exchange rate is favorable.
