Zimbabwe Visa – Day Visa Stopped

Monday, October 26th, 2009

We hear that with immediate effect, Zimbabwe is no longer offering a day visa for travelers wishing to do activities on the Zambian side of the Zambezi.

All travelers leaving Zimbabwe will need to purchase a new visa on their return to the country.

If you plan to take part in Victoria Falls adventure activities based in Zambia, or wish to pay a visit to the Zambian side of the Falls, I suggest you purchase a multiple entry visa on arrival into Zimbabwe to allow you to come and go as you wish.

Get Cash in Victoria Falls

Thursday, October 1st, 2009

Barclays Bank has now activated their ATM machine in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe so it now dispenses cash in USD.

At the moment they only accept Visa cards but the Mastercard option will be available soon. Daily limit is US$400.

At this time we still advise travelers to make sure they have enough cash on them before arriving in Zimbabwe as there is no guarantee US cash will be available regularly from this machine – or that the exchange rate is favorable.

What is a Local Payment?

Monday, September 21st, 2009

Easy answer – the local payment (also called kitty) is a portion of your total tour price which you pay locally to your Crew at the start of the trip.

This enables tour operators to get cash directly to their Crew for on-the-ground expenses without having to have a bank account in every country or spend a fortune wire transferring it. These costs would be passed onto the client so effectively it also keeps tour prices down a little bit.

However, with recent changes in advertising and consumer protection laws in different countries (Australia and most of Europe especially), the local payment is to be phased out.  This will mean your ‘once off’ tour price will be all inclusive of your tour cost AND any incurred costs of getting funds to the Ground Crew or activity operators, fluctuating exchange rates and random banking charges.

The average increase in tour cost is around 1% at this point.

Not every tour has a local payment and whether it applies can also depend on where you live and what currency you will pay in.

Not all laws are completely beneficial to the general public then are they?

Feel free to ask any questions about Local Payment below or check out Local Payment info here.

Zambia Visa Price – for now….

Friday, September 18th, 2009

After numerous price changes and much fluffing around the Zambian government has finally settled (for now) on the following Zambia Visa prices.

Single Entry for all passport holders   -  $50 US
Multiple Entry for all passport holders   -  $80 US
Day Visa’s from Zimbabwe   -  $20 US

The lucky Irish and many African countries are still visa exempt! Nice for some!
