Benin Transport

Benin transport offers a range of ways to get around the various towns and cities, however many are unsafe or expensive so make sure you learn more about the best options available.

Getting Around Benin

Getting around Benin is fairly simple if you have a good, reliable transport option – however make sure you know the best options and never take a risk if you are unsure.

Train Travel in Benin
Benin’s railway is slow but cheap, with trains running from Cotonou, Parakou and Bohicon. Prices start from about CFA1400 for 1st class to CF1100 for 2nd class, and vary depending on the destination.

Car Travel in Benin
Self-drive is not recommended due to few good roads and crime within certain areas. Stick to major roads and keep doors and windows locked.

Taxi Travel in Benin

There are a number of taxi options including the common bush taxis, which run almost everywhere at cheap rates (but are not known for their safety!), the scooter taxis which run through the cities (also cheap and even more dangerous than bush taxi) as well as hire taxis which are safer but can be pricey – make sure you negotiate fare before leaving.
