Christian Religion Benin
Christianity is practiced by the largest percentage of Beninese, with the largest group being Catholics, and smaller groups of Celestial Christians and Baptists. Traditional beliefs, mostly Vudun are still incorporated into many traditional Christian religions in Benin.
Islam Religion Benin
Approximately 24.4% of Beninese practice Islam, which was brought to the country by Arab, Hausa, and Songhai-Dendi traders. Sunni is the branch practiced by most Islamic Beninese.
Vudun Religion Benin
Vudun, or ‘voodoo’ plays a key role in Benin spirituality and faith, and many Beninese practice Vudun. Far from the barbaric and scary dark magic that Hollywood portrays voodooism, the religion is based on animism and nature plays an important part in the faith.
Traditional Religion Benin
Vudun is the most common form of traditional religion, although other forms on animism are practiced by some tribes. Ancestors and nature play a huge role in many traditional beliefs.
