Angola Safety
With its volatile history and marked off landmine fields, many travelers wonder about Angola safety - is it safe to travel in Angola?
The good news is that travel in this beautiful country is quite safe if visitors follow basic precautions.
The most important aspect of Angola safety is to be very aware of minefield areas, which are usually clearly marketed with red and white HALO Trust posts or red stones or similar. Going beyond these markings is extremely dangerous as mines are difficult to spot with an untrained eye and driving in these areas can be fatal.
Is is Safe to Travel in Angola?
Like any big city, it is also not recommended to walk alone – especially at night. Crime is generally low in the smaller towns and villages, but in cities like Luanda it is better to take precautions. When travelling in cars, visitors should keep doors locked and stay inside until security personnel are within reach, and valuables should never be left in cars.
It is also important to note that taking photographs of government buildings, airports, or any other sites of military interest can result in a heavy fine or worse, so never take out a camera in front of police.
