Angola Religion

Angola religion is predominantly Christian, with a largely Roman Catholic influence. Indigenous religions are also practiced fairly frequently, and many Angolans are very spiritual in nature, with a rich religious system.

Christian Religions Angola
Christianity is the main religion in Angola, with 53% of the population practicing Christian beliefs. Catholicism is predominant, with 38% of Angolans being practicing Catholics. There are eleven Protestant denominations, including Methodists, Congregational, Baptist and Evangelical churches.

Indigenous Religions Angola
There are many tribal religions and beliefs, with ancestral and spiritual influences being the prevalent beliefs among all ethnic groups. Witchcraft, sorcery and ancestral spirits are a strong belief, especially in times of famine or misfortune. A diviner or kimbanda is able to deal with these spirits, and also has extensive understanding of herbal medicines.

Islam Religion Angola
Islam in Angola is a minority religion with approximately 80,000-90,000 followers, composed largely of migrants from West Africa and families of Lebanese origin.
