Angola Plants

Angola plants are as varied as its climate regions, and include a diverse range of habits which are rich in bird and wildlife.

Despite deforestation and soil erosion which has affected a number of habitats, Angola has a low deforestation rate relative to its forest cover. Lush rainforests in the north, which include a range of plant species including rubber vines and rubber trees.

The main portion of the country has savanna grasslands with scattered trees and baobabs, with dense thorn tree scrub in some parts near the Kunene River. Coastal regions have palm trees and mangroves, while desert areas have shrub and Welwitschia scattered throughout the region.

Vegetation in Angola

Vegetation in Angola has to some extent been affected by environmental damage; however the main areas in the savanna grasslands are relatively unaffected.

One of the country’s best natural areas is within the Luando Strict Nature Reserve, which has a range of vegetation starting with typical miombo woodland interspersed with shrubs, and going on to mixed woodlands and forest.
