Angola Customs

Navigating through Angola customs on your OverlandingAfrica.com tour can be daunting, but if you follow basic guidelines you will not have any problems.

Angola has fairly strict customs rules, and illegal items such as drugs are highly forbidden and could bring serious jail time or harsh consequences.

Prohibited and restricted items include the following:

  • firearms, ammunition or explosive materials
  • medicines and foodstuffs dangerous to health or drugs in any form
  • pornographic material
  • plants originating in infected areas
  • gaming machines
  • pure alcohol
  • animals or animal products without corresponding certificates
  • fiscal or postal stamps or valuables

Permitted items for travellers over 18 years old include 400 cigarettes, 1/4 litre of eau de toilette or 0.05 litre of perfume, aftershave or similar, 2 litres of wine and 1 litre of spirits and personal property or gifts up to US $500.00.

Exporting Angolan currency outside of the country is illegal, and could carry fines or worse so make sure that you either convert your currency before you leave Angola or spend it.
