Angola Conservation

One of the main projects in Angola conservation has been the reintroduction of game into the Quicama National Park – in particular elephants, which were taken from over-populated herds in South Africa.

Ivory poaching decimated the huge numbers of elephants once found in this area, and the reintroduction of these species among other game aims to address this balance. Other highly endangered and vulnerable wildlife includes the manatee, 3 species of marine turtles, the giant sable, the African long-snouted crocodile, the black rhino and the black-faced impala.

Preservation Angola

Replenishing game stocks and improving protection efforts in national parks are part of the preservation Angola projects.

The giant sable project in particular has aimed to preserve current numbers and encourage expansion of the species through breeding programmes.

Quicama National Park is the flagship park for preservation and conservation projects in Angola, and has successfully implemented a number of elephant relocation projects within the park.
